Kelpie
Sarah and David Holtby
Sun 2 Dec 2018 17:13
16:22.7N 43:33.8W at noon. Today marks an important milestone on Kelpie's transatlantic jaunt: we passed the half way point at 11:40 this morning. We are over 1000 miles from both Cape Verde and St Vincent; in fact, the nearest land is French Guyana at approximately 850 miles to our south-west. Perhaps that's where the lost-looking seabirds come from. To celebrate our milestone Sarah has promised us roast beef for supper. We joked that the test would be whether the Yorkshire puddings would rise, but the girl is up for the challenge. Moreover, the success of Kelpie's recently installed water maker means that today is a shower day (I had a bath on Sunday and went to work on Monday. I worked eleven hours and bought the girl some flowers) so you we be almost as relieved as we are that Kelpie's crew remains fragrant.

Our noon to noon run for the last 24 hours was 151 miles so we have averaged over 6 knots every day since we left Cape Verde. Approaching 45 degrees west, we have put ship's time to GMT - 3 hours. This undoubtedly means that our respective annoying alarms will wake us and the rest of the crew up an hour early or late for our watches tonight. There is no ambient light so our celestial star-gazing has opened up regions of the heavens normally denied to Europeans. We are still second on adjusted time but the boat in front has increased his lead. Kelpie needs to pick up her skirts!
