Log Day 5

After a delicious Dorado supper prepared expertly by Niki, David and Fabio the evening watches got off to a good start.  However as the night progressed, so did the clouds and it wasn’t long before some heavy showers set in and whoever was unfortunate enough to be on the helm got a good soaking.  The early hours brought little wind and we found ourselves bobbing around and not making any progress.  Just before dawn Matt made the decision to turn on the engine and so we motored on into Thursday morning, a little disheartened at the lack of excitement.

Our spirits were brightened very shortly afterwards when a pod of 6 dolphins appeared and played at the bow.  The word must have spread through the dolphin population that we needed some entertainment as we were joined later in the morning by another pod.  At noon Fabio and Peter brought out the sextant and started taking sights to then try to estimate our position.  Their geometry session was rudely interrupted by the spinning of the reel and action ensued as we started to bring in our second fish of the trip.  An enthusiastic Fabio took the rod, guided by the expertise of David and Matt, and before long they successfully landed a Bonito!

We have been advised by Matt that the Bonito is not the tastiest of fish so we’ve decided to stick with Shepherd’s Pie tonight and Matt is going to fry up some Bonito Bites for those who want to try!
