Distance 2,988NM
Apologies to our many avid readers of the
blog who will have to look for fresh inspiration in the days to come as we
have now finished the ARC. I could not update the blog as the Satellite
phone handset packed in on Saturday evening having faithfully served us
for the last 6 weeks.
The Flyer crew have hung up their safety
harnesses after crossing the finishing line at 11:27 am local time on
Saturday. It was a momentous end to an epic trip as we had Big Brother
hoisted for the last 20 miles in some hair raising downwind
sailing in 25Knots of breeze. A couple of broaches did not deter the
crew as they were determined to finish the race on a high and just
managed to creep ahead of a group of 3 chasing yachts.
The finish line being set well into
Rodney Bay was absolutely spectaculrt and there was just room to cross,
round up and clear the anchored yachts and many Oppy dinghies which were
racing before entering the Marina. We received a fantastic "
standing ovation" of cheers and foghorns from our fellow competitors
as we berthed in t
he marina before being met by an ARC
welcoming comittee who insisted we have a rum punch
immediately!
The afternoon was spent swimming on the
beach as the enormity of having finished and being back on drfy land sunk
in.
Thanks to mour many supporters for all
your messages, the blog will resume on Wednesday 17 December as a more
gentle cruise of the Windward Islands starrts.
We will have to wait for our final ARC position on corrected
time, will advise as soon as we have
this.
