Lexicon of American marine (mainly) related terms
pound = hash (sign #)
dock = pontoon
tag (Florida) hyphen (Carolinas) = degrees. Spoken when transmitting on VHF by US Coastguard, e.g 34 tag
12 decimal 58 North 79 tag 49 decimal 5 West
restrooms = toilets
break = a word spoken to indicate moving to a different part of a message,
in transmissions by US Coastguard
(mooring) ball = mooring buoy
shrimp = prawn (and some great big ones too!)

Other differences
Red Right Returning = red markers on the right when entering a channel. This
was done to confuse and scupper German boats during WWII and not just to be
different according to Russ a profesisonal skipper (and boat builder) whom
we met at Riveiera Beach Marina

Chart depths = electronic charts in metres, paper passage charts in fathoms,
paper detailed charts in feet
