You will no doubt be jumping up and down having
noticed my mistake in the last Story. Of course, Menorca was ruled by the
British in the 18th century and not the 19th. Silly me. The French
captured it for a 20 years period in that time due to the British being
distracted by the Admiral Bynge affair - you know the one. Howerver
they got it back briefly until ceding it to the Spanish under the Treaty of
Amiens in 1802. British occupation is viewed benignly because the island
prospered during that time. We helped repel pirates and so
forth.
Also, if you go out early enough you are lmore
likely to catch Menorquin. They are not rare as previously thought.
The species is too sensible to come out in the heat of the day and their chatter
can be caught more easily between 9 - 11am in the markets and shops.
