Story - 20th June 2009
The action
started when Dick noticed the main engine battery had drained to 8 volts. In
Plymouth the MES engineers had wired the SSB directly to the battery (another
long story), and for some reason it had drained in 12 hours. Bill and Dick managed to start the main
engine by linking to the generator start battery. They then thought that the
engine wasn’t charging its own battery but managed to get a charge by starting
the generator. By now we were just inside the separation zone off of
Ushant. Bill contacted Discovery
and further investigation by Mr fix it Bigus identified the battery monitors
appear to be swapped giving the impression of charging problems, happily it
looks a s though all is ok, apart from an SSB that eats batteries for
breakfast. The rest of
the day provided excellent sailing conditions in the big rolling swell coming in
from the North West. This
evening e have enjoyed Salmon en-croute with carrots, French beans and jersey
royal potatoes. We all sat and enjoyed the meal in the saloon, how
civilised! Not much
traffic about for Dicks watch from 8-11 but then more purse seine fishing boats
for Richard to deal with. We are now sailing towards the shelf where depths drop
from 100-200m down to 3000 metres and
more. |
