From Rudder Cut Cay, we visited Farmers Cay for one night. Coming through the cut towards the Cay was rather hairy as the current was ripping and the gap only about 20 metres wide. Poor Douglas had to concentrate very hard!! We were travelling in convoy with our friends from ‘Antares’ .
It is a charming place and the children and I spent a lovely afternoon on a beach with rock pools, making homes for sea snails while Douglas epoxy’d our head which has a crack in the bottom. This explains why the bilges have needed to be sponged out daily. We hope the problem is solved for now but plan to get a new bit in the USA to replace it properly.

After a very thundery night in Farmers Cay, we left early, eager to get to Staniel Cay where we had planned to meet Hamish and pick up our new outboard!!!!! it is only 9nm from Farmers, and according to the charts we could have probably made it there on the ‘inside’ route, but as the charts here have proven to be very inaccurate, we decided to go ‘outside’ again which was much faster and better for our nerves!!
We arrived at exactly the same time as Hamish on his boat (he is skipper of a boat and here for a few days) and were able to get the engine straight away. So far we have had to go everywhere really slowly as she needs running in gently. Douglas cannot wait to open her up as she is a bit more powerful than the old one. Although Hamish was working, we were able to have some drinks with him in the evening and it has been really lovely to catch up after a year or so. Knowing how rubbish the Bahamas is for provisioning, he came armed with a bag full of goodies for us which was very gratefully received!
