Again, our minds have been blown by the beauty and magic of a place. Rudder Cut Cay ( nearby home of David Copperfield- we did not get to see him BTW, no surprises there) is another deserted paradise. We arrived with Antares, plus Ti Santo, another Dutch boat and were soon out hunting for the famous Mermaid underwater sculpture. We did not find the Mermaid (Alice was very cross about this) all we found was tonnes of coral and a 2 meter long Shark!!!
This did not deter Douglas and Wal (Val) fro the water, but Hedda and I stayed firmly put in the dinghies. Instead we went over to the enormous grotto or cave on the beach and had our own floating dinghy party with rum and snorkelling around the cave. A really lovely evening. This morning we went looking for the Mermaid again, but with a GPS and found her sitting by her Piano! It is a beautiful underwater sculpture commissioned 5 years ago by David Copperfield. I was not sure what the fuss was all about, but when you see it, you realise how lovely it is. We were all swimming around her for about an hour. The two Dads managed to swim down and sit at the piano to tinkle the ivories, but the Mummie’s ears would not let them get that deep. I was also on high alert watching out for our shark friend (although we looked him up and almost 100% sure it was a nurse shark which are pretty harmless).

It was then a rather bumpy ride back through the cuts round to Farmer’s Cay. Poor Douglas spent the afternoon epoxying our leaking head (loo) and sponging out the bilges while I went ashore exploring with the children. We found a beach with lots of rock pools and the children had great fun making swimming pools for poor various sea creatures. Alice then decided to ‘swim’ in the pools, which made Arthur and I laugh a LOT.

Tomorrow we hope to meet up with our friend Hamish. Hamish has saved our bacon and organised a new outboard for us from the states and has brought it to the Bahamas. We are really looking forward to seeing him and also having an engine again. Our new Suzuki is going to be a bit heavier than old Ermentrude, but a bit more nippy (and she jolly well better be a bit more reliable!!) The new one has already been named ‘Suz’. Hopefully Suzy Wheal will approve of this when we tell her!!
