BLUE WATER RALLY - TIMOR SEAS
12.10S 125.01E Sunday 5th October – We have finally
found the wind - 13 knots on the beam – and we are enjoying near perfect
sailing conditions along with our pod of three (Glendora and Jupiter). We are
occupied and variously: – learning to play chess – reading
Oscar’s ‘Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior’ Dan Millman
– a book coincidentally set in Molokai where we travelled to when he was
a baby – effecting pedicures – fishing – watching films
– doing odd maintenance jobs like adjusting the main sail back into its
track– applying silicone to the windows – pouring
‘Tolley’s creeping crack cure’ into potential leaky areas -
cooking sausages and mash with onion gravy for dinner – chatting on the
VHF – and day four is slipping by….. Our frustrating news is that inverting the old oil seal hasn’t
worked and we are losing as much oil as we were before….. but on the
positive side we now at least know the correct seal to order and Paul could
probably do the change over himself if the boys helped him (moving the engine
is a back-breaker) now he has watched Nefa do it. We heard on SSB today that
poor Stargazer’s brand new generator was fitted incorrectly in Mackay and
has sucked in gallons of sea water……how dreadful…. that engineer
has a lot to answer for; I don’t think this was an isolated case. Eighteen Rally boats are on route to Kupang and plan to be there over
the next three days (some have arrived already), four are still in Darwin, two
left early for Bali and we three are on route for Ashmore
Reef…….which we should reach tomorrow morning…….and we
will have a party on board to celebrate Teri on Glendora’s birthday and
mine…….and Jupiter will join us too……and bring the ice! |
