Saturday/Sunday 1st and 2nd September - Ellis Bay and Palm Cove
Wild Carol does Australia
John and Fiona Fraser

Grenville and Grace arrived just after 5 and we went with them to Palm Cove for dinner. It was great to meet Grace finally and we had lots to chat about. We’ll be staying at their house in Coff’s Harbour in a couple of weeks.
On Sunday, John got up a bit earlier and managed to catch the sunrise this time. Another walk along the beach together and then we drove the van in to Palm Cove and met for a coffee, after which they headed to Cairns and we meandered back to the van along the beautiful (but very manicured) esplanade. We indulged in a two-scoop ice cream and walked out to the end of the pier where lots of folk were throwing lures in the water but there didn’t seem to be much in the way of fish being caught.
We needed some shopping so we drove to the Woolies at Smithfield. A 1l bottle of Tanqueray was on offer in the bottle shop at $59 (about £34), normally $79, so we felt we couldn’t ignore that even though we never buy the same for more than £20 at home. But we need stock for our sailing next week!
And that was pretty much the end of our weekend. We leave Ellis Bay tomorrow and we’ve decided to do a bit more sightseeing in the Tablelands before heading for Mission Beach for the night.
