In the morning before breakfast we walked the entire length of the beach up to the northerly point and into a stiff breeze on the way back. We decided to return as we thought a few days just chilling on the beach would be good for us (!) and also John’s friend Grenville and his wife Grace will be coming to Palm Cove so we’ll be able to meet them next week.

We drove to Port Douglas and checked in at the dive shop to complete paperwork. After much consideration John decided not to dive due to ambiguity over certification, length of time since last dive (unbelievable, but 11 years!), lack of recent medical, and so on, so we’re both going to snorkel. It’s a small boat, only 12 customers and about half of those will be snorkelling.

Then we checked in to the Tropic Breeze caravan park, a stones throw from four mile beach, where a 4m croc had been spotted that very morning swimming past. We surmised that maybe he was a male forced out and looking for new territory.

We walked to the beach and decided to splash out on a pair of beach loungers and an umbrella for the rest of the afternoon. Fi wasted no time in moving her lounger out of the shade of the brolly whereas I ensured that my lounger was completely shaded. Got another few chapters of the book read!
