There's not much to report about Rock Sound but we enjoyed Governors Harbour 20 nm further North. Amongst the derelict properties in the village were one or two colonial buildings, more churches than the small community could ever need, & some attractive wealthy 2nd homes on the small hill behind (you can tell we're getting closer to the US!).
After a few days we moved on North via Hatchet Bay which was a landlocked pond now accessed by cutting a narrow entrance through the limestone cliffs (like Beaucette in Guernsey & similarly dramatic to enter). To reach Spanish Wells to the North we had to go through Current Cut, a narrow passage between Eleuthera & Current Island only passable a slack water due to the monumental current the rest of the time. Spanish Wells is a slightly larger settlement on a small island a mile West of Eleuthera. From there we took a day trip by ferry to Harbour Island, a much more up market spot with some very nice property & a civilised, if tweet, atmosphere - a rare chance to eat out in style!
