We then sailed north west to Mayaguana, the first of the 700 islands in the Bahamas. Again there wasn't much there, but we had a friendly reception from the 2 ladies in a cabin serving as customs & immigration - maybe relieving us of the $300 for a cruising permit helped? The challenge in the Bahamas is going to be shallow water & we were anchored a 1/2 hour dinghy ride from the shore, well sheltered behind a reef, but not conducive to frequent visits ashore.
With more high wind forecast in 36 hours time we decided to sail on 120nm to Clarence Town on Long Island where we could shelter in a small marina. As I write we're straining on our mooring lines watching the wind increase; we're glad to be here even if there's not a lot to do until it calms down next week.
