Lat dag igjen idag her i Nazaré. Vi spiste lunsjen igjen på vår vanlige restaurant sammen med fiskerne og arbeiderne fra fiskemottaket før vi tok bussen til byen. Idag reiste vi opp på den øvre delen av byen ved å ta funikularen - som lignet svært på Fløibanen i Bergen, bortsett fra prisen som var kr 6 pr. person.  Vi hadde en fin spasertur ut til fyret og så de kraftige bølgene som rullet innover stranden og klippene.  Her er det mye krefter i sving! 
 
Nord Portugal er også kjent for sine broderier slik som man også finner på Madeira.  Rønnaug har kjøpt et par flotte broderte duker til 200 kr - litt minne må man jo ha med seg videre. 
 
De eldre damene her nede kler seg veldig tradisjonelt og spesielt.  De har noen korte og brusende skjørt som rekker litt over knærne.  Dette gjør at de virker ganske omfangsrike over baken.  På hodet har de som regel et fargerikt skjerf og store gulløredobber.   Ofte bærer de varene sine på hodet som balanseres på en tøyring.  Denne måten å bære ting på hodet fører sikkert til at de får en god holdning.

I skrivende stund (kl 19) er Nigel i nabo-båten som heter "Fairwinds".  De skal også til Karibia.  De har hatt litt trøbbel med å få deres PC til å fungere med deres satellitt telefon - noe som Nigel sa han kunne hjelpe de med.  Vi får håpe de får det til å virke.

Another lazy day here in Nazaré.  We ate lunch at our usual restaurant together with the fishermen and the workers at the fishery, before we took the bus into town.  Today we travelled to the upper part of the town by taking the cable car (like the funicular they have in Bergen) - very inexpensive less than 1 EUR per person.  From the top we had a nice walk down to the lighthouse where we sat and watched the waves crashing in over the beach and cliffs. 
 
North Portugal is also well known for their emroidery works - just like you find on Madeira.  Rønnaug have bought  a couple of nice table cloths - which is a nice memory of this part of the world. Hand made work like this would cost a fortune in Norway.  The shop clerk told us that this work was done by older ladies in north Portugal (and probably a dying art here as well). 
 
The older ladies here dress in very unique and traditional clothes. They were som short and wide skirts which reach just above their knees.  This makes them look kind of wide over their hips.  On their head they ususaly have a colourful scarf and wear large gold earrings.  They often carry things on their head as well and this is balanced by using a cloth ring - probably good for their posture.
 
Fish is still preserved by drying on racks on the beach here - rather like in Norway. See today's picture..
 
While this blog is being written (Local time 19:00), Nigel is busy with helping another English boat (called "Fairwinds") with their PC and satellite phone connection.  Lets hope it all will work out for them.  They are also going to the Caribbean - so we will most likely run into them again at some point.
