The decision to return to England from Kilmore Quay via the Scilly Isles was one not taken lightly, given the 27 - 34 hours (@ between 4 to 5 knots average) needed to complete the passage. And I was single-handed, about to complete the longest non stop trip done by me in Gemini.

Shortly after setting off, I was forced to use the engine as wind speed enabling about 2 knots of speed across the ground was too slow to make the passage enjoyable. But pods of dolphins joined me on many occasions during the crossing, including one which frightened the life out of me at night in the rough seas, when a large dolphin leapt out of the water just beside me.

The passage of 140 nms took me 29 ½ hours, averaging just under 5 knots per hour. Fighting sleep became a key issue at times, as focus on a particular course gave me difficulty, when my body told me I needed sleep!

The wonderful reception was the amazing weather, the like of which I did not experience round Ireland but which was widely reported within UK.
