After 4 days in Bangor, during I met a few friends and had 2 days out with a resident friend, Reg Maxwell, who took me out in his car to see Belfast, its surrounds and Strangford Lough. I enjoyed the sights and the meals out in local restaurants. How er, I felt the urge to move on, despite the gloomy forecast of continuing strong winds. But I detected a change in the weather pattern this morning and hoped the gusts would not be as strong as forecast. The decision was a good one. On leaving harbour there was hardly any wind but it soon picked up, which with the tide in my favour for the first few hours, allowed me to average about 7 knots until the tide changed.

But the wind direction was kind to me, at last, in that it veered from SW to W to NW, just what I needed. I covered 38.5 nms in 7.5 hours and avoided the rain, which came down on my arrival in Ardglass.

The photo below shows my first sighting of the Mourne mountains.

Tomorrow I intend departing very early to make the 55nm passage to Howth near Dublin. It is a plan, which may change.
