An early start on a murky grey morning saw us sailing off our mooring back down river to the mouth just past Portmagee. The wind was weak and on the nose, with lumpy seas. Despite our best attempts to tack under full sail, our progress was slow so we motor sailed for a couple of hours, before entering the harbour of Valentia Island through a very small entrance, requiring attentive navigation.

These photos show the countryside either side of the river leading up to the Cahersiveen Marina, about 2 nms NE of Valentia Harbour. We arrived at 1100, prepared to leave the boat for a walk and good look round. The pub sounds tempting!
