After an exhilerating (hairy at times!) sail from Sal we dropped anchor in the peaceful harbour here

in time to cook a traditional Christmas dinner (the Portugese special meat was delicious) and open

our presents in a balmy (for once) evening in the cockpit.

Sao Nicolau looks quite as barren as Sal, but as mountainous as it was flat and therefore generally

much more interesting. We're told the interior is verdant - hard to believe from here, but we'll

investigate tomorrow.
