Wednesday 26 August

Alas, we have now started our journey home. Well, not quite, but we are passaging back to Cavtat from where we will check out from Croatia and head fro Sicily.
The submarine caves in Lastovo (photo) were investigated but Brian decided they would not make a winter mooring for WII - too low for her mast.  Today we have come from Korcula where we enjoyed the spectacular walled mediaeval town (photo).
We are in Mljet Island, with 'Seagull' Bay all to ourselves.  Hal has again  produced a fantastic meal, despite being promised a meal out we just didnt want to leave this spectacular setting. (photo - skipper not quite sure whether it was steak being bbq'd or the boat!)

Sunday 30 August . Tia Bay Cavtat . 42:35.17 N, 18:13.24 E

On occasions we have had some trouble with the powered anchor winch when the down button has stuck 'on' -Neil  has managed to drop 100 metres of cable in 6 metres of water, with the winch handle loose in his hand. However we have now cracked this problem and reverted to dropping chain 'on the clutch' as the down button still requires further investigation.

Hal leaves the boat today with the following body count: hangovers -three, stubbed toe (claiming to be dislocated) -one, (but in any event far less impressive than Caroline's anchor fight injuries which are of Moby Dick proportions - she doesnt want to talk about it, let alone attach photos!), and a minimal tan which belies the fact he is bound for blighty. Books read -two, of which the Leopard is highly recommended. Hal is replaced by the crack team - that is Michelle who continues the fight against tinned mushrooms although some unusually large sweet corn was seen to be smuggled on board.

The boat lies between the somewhat sinister 'Black Sea' with its matching black and grey rib, and the far less opulent albeit much more sophisticated neighbour ,Hippocampus III, who numbers two toy dogs amongst her crew, with an apparent fondness for crapping on teak!  Brian would have a fit!.

Boat [as of 7am this morning] is being cleaned in advance of the next leg. Slight change in the weather possibly promises some wind,  although the cloud appears to be lifting and another stunning day appears to be in the offing. Fully provisioned although tonic water and tea, the apparent hights of post-colonial sophistication, are running low and recourse may be to red wine.

Hal  signs off with the promise to return. Truly stunning place. Hope it remains as such.

Departing Cavtat midday today 30/08/09 - heading Sicily.

All the best to all our readers
