Engine’s off at last , hooray !!!!  Last night no wind at all and motoring all night but at last with the sun this morning came a nice 7 knot breeze with calm seas and a close reach.

Now built to 12 knots and freed off so we are having a lovely broad reach , bit of sunshine , bit of rain but generally all round very pleasant.

Jan had a bit of a scare this morning when the depth sounder dropped to 2.4 m and stayed there abouts !! As we are on the edge of the abyssal plain which is about 2000 m deep it seemed likely that we were either being shadowed by an anti-covid submarine , picked up a hitch hiking whale or suffering a lazy echo sounder which had decided to say “ sod it , I’m not pinging all the way down there and waiting for it to come back – I’ll just guess”.  My vote goes to the latter.

Apart from that there’s not much happening , telly doesn’t work , can’t pick up Popmaster and everything else is a bit sort of fuzzy which is probably due to a) no alcohol for two and a half days and b) this very strange sleeping regime that leaves me wondering whether I’ve had any or not. I keep hearing voices and seeing things in the waves at night but I suppose that’s normal

Weyve is behaving impeccably other than our two barometers can’t agree what the pressure is but that’s not a worry as long as we know if its going up or down.

We’ve been testing our temperature everyday and logging it to show the authorities in Madeira in the hope that they’ll let us in and so far we haven’t got the virus though a fisherman did pass within two miles upwind yesterday so not in the clear yet !
