Halfway !!

Over the last three days the average wind speed has been 6 knots so we , and the rest of the fleet ,have been wallowing in the swell making no more than 3 or 4 knots towards St Lucia. Yesterday was fun though , we caught and held onto a decent sized Dorado which was quite exciting. We couldn’t wait to fillet it , marinade it in lemon for a few hours then dress with sesame oil , soy sauce  and mirin just like the French Chef on TY Pierre advised . When it was ready we couldn’t wait to try it --- oh well , perhaps Dorado are just not for us , it was certainly more tender than before but it still had a very weird texture.

Our Sheerwater companions that have travelled with us since the Canaries ( admitted they might not always be the same ones ) finally departed about 4 days ago but since then we have been blessed with the company of some Tropicbirds  “ peeping” all around us , they are a bit like a Tern from home but with a long thin tail feather.

We would love to catch a tuna but I don’t want to put more lines out and unnecessarily kill Dorado that we won’t eat so pizza , noodles , beans  and pickled cabbage for the rest of the trip it is !

Over the last couple of days Jan and I have got so completely out of kilter with or sleep patterns that it got to the stage where neither of us could get to sleep at all because we were too tired and subsequently were completely zombified. I finally caught up last night with Jan taking a really long watch to let me recover and she’s being having a good long sleep this afternoon so hopefully she’s back to normal as well.

I am cracking on with my Ukelele lessons and can now play 5 chords and will hopefully be able to do the entire Status Quo repertoire by the time we dock.

The trade winds finally arrived about half an hour ago with winds of 15- 18 knots so at last we are bashing along at about 7 knots with arrival at St Lucia now estimated for the 8th or 9th if the winds hold up.
