Day 12&13
Sailed from Jolly Harbour to English Harbour - and
anchored out in Freemans bay to tidy up .. then we did a reconnaisance of
Nelsons Dockyard - met up with Sherwin the Dockmaster, and he advised
us of our spot - on the corner between Uhuru (Oyster 62) and
Keolaha8 (Oyster 72).. everyone was nervous because - it would be stern too
- in a side wind - and laying out 60 metres of the anchor as we reversed in...
pretty tricky!
Alan did a great job on the anchor.... and Ted was
nimble on the stern lines... Capn Pete was accurate with the helming
- the end result was a perfect berthing - easy, no drama, and all the
dockside tourist spectators were impressed .... but privately disappointed that
there wasn`t more drama - -( ideally a prang!)
The Gala Dinner was held at the Admirals Inn -
jolly japes and story telling - followed by Capn Pete falling asleep at the
table!
Nelson`s Dockyard is impressive -it is the world`s
only working Georgian Dockyard... and is full of atmosphere..complete with Red
Telephone box - with open windows - (not the result of vandalisation - but a
climatic configuration variation)...
