We're still here! Chaguaramas, Trinidad

We know! We’ve been late with a blog update. In fact this a bit of a ‘holding’ blog… We are still at Power Boats in Trinidad despite thinking we’d be away early in October. But non, Stargazer had other plans. Upon inspection after lift-out we saw many, many bubbles in the antifouling. Expecting the worst (it wasn’t in the end) we had the entire underwater hull stripped back to gel coat. This, along with a couple of other ‘curved balls’ thrown at us meant a far longer stay was needed than anticipated. The work we’ve been doing/still are doing has revolved around: Hull moisture recording New barrier coat, tie coat and antifoul application Hull polishing A new cutless bearing Some gelcoat repair Rudder checking Heads plumbing Renewing interior varnish And, as every boat owner will know, loads of other things. Not only all that, but we have to work around the heat. In Trinidad it is HOT and we mean HOT. We have to get up at 0600 (totally not our norm) and get to it before the day heats up. This results in us both grunting to each other for the first hour or two as we get moving at these alien times of day. The reason for blog delay is therefore thus! Our new expected launch date is in early November and we’ll do a full blog report (with photos) of all the excitement in the yard here in Trinidad as soon as we can. My word, look at the time… back to work… |
