Leaving Mindelo
Leaving Mindelo It’s Sunday 26th February and all things being well, we’re leaving Mindelo today! We’re both excited (and a little nervous – as one would be when venturing across the Atlantic ocean) but we feel ready to leave. We nearly had to stay a little longer though as I discovered a small water leak yesterday. After investigation it only turned out to be a hose connector on the forward heads tap – luckily, an easy fix! We won’t be contactable for the crossing except to those who have our satellite email address – please remember to use sparingly and very briefly, thanks… Although, we will aim to update our blog with daily updates. The weather is looking more settled than it has, although there are some very deep depressions far further south than usual (presumably the UK is suffering cold NE winds as a result). The issue for us may be the beam on swell from these systems. So our [new] intention is to sail the rhumb line direct for St Lucia, allowing us the option of bearing away if the swell dictates such action. The mate is hovering about. I think she wants to suggest a competition ‘of sorts’… Here she is: It is competition time! Guess how many days our passage to St Lucia will take and you could win a Caribbean holiday* with a complimentary rum and ting on arrival :) *flights, food and drink not included!! Must dash – we have an ocean to cross… :) |
