Rodney Bay (still)

We’ve met many nice people here in the marina and together with recovering from covid (apparently you can still be tired two weeks or more after testing negative) our stay here has been somewhat extended, we must admit.

However, our time is up – well, maybe not quite, as we are heading to Martinique but first we are going to anchor out in the bay, here. There is very little wind forecast over the next few days and into next week and we refuse to motor to Martinique when there is usually plenty of wind to get there. Anchoring out in the bay will enable us to get used to ‘being at anchor’ (after so long in the marina), check how we manage with power generation and so on. We intend to be out of marinas for about three months and we haven’t had extended spells at anchor for quite some time.

We decided to go to Martinique this year mainly due to the high food prices in St Lucia and reportedly high food prices in Grenada. Well, I say high, to me they are ridiculous – find the price of any food item in the UK and add at least 50% and you’ll get the idea. Martinique is actually a department of France with proper supermarkets and sensible prices, so most boats head there at some stage to stock up. The mate is very happy about this as where I can manage with a tin of corned beef and some baked beans, the mate requires lockers full of ‘stuff’.

So, on Monday 24th April we’ll leave Rodney Bay marina and our plan is to anchor off Pigeon Island out in the bay for a night or two before the 30NM passage to Martinique. Actually, we’ve already been out into the bay but by dinghy and very nice it all looks. We discovered a small café on Pigeon Island which is delightful; sadly we won’t be able to revisit it when we’re anchored out there because we’ll have checked out of St Lucia and won’t be able to go ashore unless we come back into Rodney bay marina and check back in…

The mate says hello, but she seems too busy with  food shopping lists to add her piece this time J

We’ll have little, if any, connectivity out in the Bay and probably not much in Martinique, so for close friends and family who we like to contact, please bear with us for a week or so.
