One Week On

Starcross Fair Log

One week since we arrived in St Lucia, and we have now had
a chance to reflect, and let enough people disperse so we can get
something in the form of internet access.

The first few days after our arrival were spent in a
whirlwind of cleaning - both the yacht and ourselves, sleeping  and partying. Particular highlights
were the fancy dress party on Pigeon Island, and the Group Alpha Radio Net
BBQ party, which was followed by drinks on Hudalinqua, and a street party
in the local town Gros Islet.

On Saturday we had the ARC prize giving
which was held in a big hall/theatre a short taxi drive away from the
marina. Starcross won a small trophy for being 3rd in class, a bottle of rum for
being a net controller, and came 19th overall. A result we are all very
pleased with.

Sunday was a day of departure, with Paul leaving us to
backpack around Central America, and Ross departing to spend Christmas
with family in Australia. We were also joined by Simon and Chris from
Kinerbaloo who plan to spend Christmas with us.

Monday was therefore spent in recovery mode, with a late
start. Alex and I took a walk around Rodney bay, and visited the shopping
centres. Tuesday was a day of boat maintenance (the freezer has stopped
working), and hanging around waiting for local fridge people to come (all
operating on Caribbean time) which is what we are still doing now.

Like most parts of
the Northern Hemisphere we do not seem to be having what one might expect
as normal December weather. Yesterday we had a potential tropical storm
warning and overnight and this morning we had well over 6 inches of rain
– enough for us to replace the sun awning with the full cover
waterproof Scottish awning.
If things improve we may move down to one of the other bays  for Christmas but with the current
weather we are all extremely glad we are in the marina.

More another time,
