Tuesday 14/12/10
Midday position 13:58.8N 58:05.1W
Plan +24 hours: Arrive St Lucia (95NM), drink rum, shower, drink rum, shave, drink rum and socialise with other people for the first time in nearly a month!

So close!

Excitment is brewing on Starcross with St Lucia now within 100nm.  The party atmosphere is becoming apparent already, with a second cup of tea available with cake in the afternoon and a second glass of Pimms before dinner.  Reminiscing has started, with comments such as 'the swell and storms weren't so bad after all' and 'living in such a confined space for so long is actually good fun' being heard amongst conversations.

Following yesterday's bold move to hoist the main for the first time in a week, our re-familarisation with our sails continued with the spinnaker (aka the pretty big one or the big red colourful one) being hoisted for the first time in a couple of weeks, allowing us to speed towards St. Lucia in E to NE winds.

Today's experiment involved trying to make jelly, which proved highly sucessful.  The conditions are akin to getting the jelly to set inside a 40 degrees washing machine cycle.  Well done Alex!

The Atlantic Ocean is very big, and sailing relatively slow.

P.S.  The Shreddies were finished today, resulting in a couple of tears from Alastair.  Just Right will run out tomorrow, not clear how Ross will cope!

P.P.S.  The next few days will be very challenging for the crew.  It will be odd to be more than five metres from a toilet.  Walking will be difficult.  Televisions will be highly fascinating.  Exchanging money for goods will be a chore.  Forgotten social conventions, such as washing and wearing sufficient clothing will have to quickly be relearnt.
