Dear reader,

Welcome to the 10th installment of our ARC update as we continue to cross the Atlantic aboard the good yacht Shalan.

Today has seen us make some great progress as we continue to see the miles tumble. Wind conditions have been ok, with Shalan sailing initially on the Code 0 and later with the spinnaker for the remainder of the day with the intention to continue this throughout the night wind and weather permitting.

Last night saw us encounter numerous squally areas with rain and varying conditions for a number of hours. At around 2am we ran into a fairly agressive squall whilst we were running both the spinnaker and main sails - it was all hands to the deck as the wind clocked 37knots which was enough to push Shalan onto a rather large heel! As we all raced to lower the spinnaker the heavens had already opened with what can only be described as a monsoon - all were soaked, a bit shocked but most importantly fine. This just goes to show how quickly the weather can change in the Atlantic!

Fishing Update. After yesterdays Tuna haul expectations were high, but as is life and today kicked us in the nuts, score - 'Fish 1 : Shalan 0'. For the 2nd day running we caught something that was not in the mood for being caught and made off with our lure and wire in their mouth, the only good news being that todays fish only took 25% of the line with them so we're not down and out yet! But as Arnie says, 'I'll be back' and tomrrow we'll take it back to them!

Another fantastic star canopy tonight, some small low clouds present but they don't 'cloud' our view. Tonights sky is a real treat and certainly the best we've had so far on our journey and proves a real highlight for all the crew.

Todays pic of the day: is a classic sailing scene. We like to call it 'Shalan on water with wind and sail' We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

We look forward to updating you all tomorrow... Shalan Out.
