ACTIVITIES:
Early this morning during Julians watch, the Asymmetric decided to go AWOL. We are not sure how it happened, but what we do know is that the head of the sail at the attachment point to the halyard snapped and the sail went overboard in front of the boat. The boat then drove directly over the sail and the sail was torn into bits. We no longer have the sail we need to make good speed and are currently goose wing with the main and head sail with the wind directly behind us. We are going much much slower than before and will not make the progress we were hoping for.
It was quite funny, because one minute the boat was sailing and the next minute Julian shouted - 'Jan - the sail's gone!'
These things happen, but we really did need that sail for the rest of the trip and it is going to be slow going from now on.
