Wind: 7.2 Knots from behind.
Another windless day in the Atlantic. It is getting
a bit warmer and the sun is shinning again. Mari has polished the stainless
steel outside the boat, and it looks fantastic, and washed the rest of
the dirty clothes. Rean used some special rust stain remover to get rid of the
rust stains left on the glass fibre by the rusting stainless steel. It works
quite well. Matt does as little as he possibly can and spends most of his time
in his cabin - reading. The weather has not been good, and the cabin is the most
comfortable place to be horizontal, so one can't really blame him.
Another Bilge pump problem! Two in fact!! Port side
and Starboard side float switches died, one the night before last and the other
last night. One had fused together and the bilge pump would not switch off. This
was replaced by Rean, as we had a spare one on board. The other however is an
intermittent fault in the switch, but we don't have a spare any longer. We
noticed water sloshing around in the bilge (not much) but there is normally
nothing in the bilge, so we took a look and the float switch was not engaging
the pump when the water level was supposed to trigger it.
We are now on a course for the Canaries and have
started our turn southwards. We will not be able to see the Azores as we will
pass south of them, at a distance too great to bring them over the horizon.
There is a high pressure just south west of us at the moment and it is catching
us. I hope we can escape it and get into some wind that is stronger than 10
knots. We have had winds of 10 knots and less for 75% of this trip. No wonder
the ARC Rally is a month earlier.... No Wind in June!!!
Well, we are all well, enough water on board thanks
to the water maker. It has been great.. Rean did have to disconnect the low
pressure switch as it was causing the unit to stop making water, but it only
takes one hour every two days to fill the tanks, except if we wash clothes and
the boat, then we need a bit more. It takes just three hours to fill the tanks
from empty, and it is surprisingly quite compared to the 500's water maker. We
also have enough food. Plenty of Chicken, Beef and Cereal. Bread is finished and
so are Matt's beers. The potato's went all funny and started to get little
soft blisters that smelled funny, so we tossed them. (weird). We still have
fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber... can you believe it!!
We are going to have a prawn cocktail for lunch and
then Teriyaki chicken for supper (that's tea if your name is Mark or
Lewis). Talking about Mark and Lewis - We will need to get them out here to help
fix a few things on the boat.......
