We had a fascinating time exploring Barbuda yesterday. We hired a guide to take as to the caves and Guiness (Clifford Jefferies) took us right up the lagoon to see the Frigate bird colony. One of the most impressive sights I have seen.

This is the beach we have been anchored off for the past 3 days - 11 mile beach - pretty much deserted.

Frigate Bird colony - perhaps the only one in the Caribbean? Hundreds of thousands of birds as far as the eye can see. Each mangrove is densely populated with nests and juveniles. The juveniles take from 7 - 9 months before they can fly. These birds CANNOT swim, so they remain on their perch all that time.

8 months to go!

Returning with food. Sometimes up to 2 weeks on the wing before the adults return to the Colony. 6 foot wingspan!

I shall put the cave photo's on another posting due to the size limit.
