Rounding Cabo de Gato

Yesterday the 19th September we passed another
major point in our journey by rounding Cabo de Gato 36:43.0N
2:11.0W.
We had left early from Cartagena on Thursday
18th September. Having cleared the harbour we found a very heavy swell running
from the east, which lead to a cork screwing motion for the 50 odd miles
we had to cover. It was hot and a little windless, but we bowled along under
engine at 6 plus knots, arriving in a small bay called San Pedro just south of a
industrial town called Carboneras.
On arrival at San Pedro a very
kind man off a yacht already at anchor gave us fresh tuna and invited us for a
drink. However I was so hot I just had to jump in the water to cool off. I am
not very good at getting in the water but this time no stopping me, straight
in.
We didn't take the offer of a
drink up, and had a quick meal as it was getting late. Well, KIR rolled
around, got blown by gusts off the mountains from the land breeze, leading to a
not very good night.Even had the anchor alarm going off suggesting we were
dragging our anchor.
Never mind up early to head for
Cabo de Gato and Almerimar. Can you believe it, it was raining and cold. I
mean jackets on stuff, still in shorts though!
