Big day, moved to a new marina. Gone from the beautiful outlook at Kettering to heavy industrial next door to Incat, the builder of large catamaran ferries. One huge boat is being built at the moment. Quiet nights now interrupted by trains and sirens. Shock horror, back to the real world.

The afternoon was spent with Ian moving more pontoons around preparing for the Wooden Boat Festival. Had to meet him at Incat which required a trip through security, a challenge: ‘name please’, ‘can you spell David?’, then while waiting for endless phone calls I read the rules of entry and point 7 was you must leave through the same gate as you enter. As a joke I said I couldn’t do it as I was leaving on a boat. Not a good joke, more phone calls. Anyway, all went well.

Last night was the volunteer induction lectures for the Festival. No more in Tas can you just volunteer, now you must have a safety plan, be responsible for your actions and, as they say, act like it’s a real job that you’re not getting paid for. I think it is based on a public servant’s life with the only difference they get paid.

Today off to Port Arthur.
