37:04.46N 08:07.35W Cadiz to Lagos is to be our first over-nighter, some 120NM and we leave just before 1000 to a sparkly close reach in a northerly breeze.  After about an hour of perfect sailing the wind starts to back and we’re pushed first to a close haul and then off our course to keep the sails filled.  The wind also increases and by nightfall we’re forced down to a reefed mainsail and the engine to make any progress at all.  The night’s uneventful and we easily fall into our night-time pattern of watchkeeping but in the morning we decide to call it a day and head to Villamoura instead.  So, we’ve changed the courtesy flag to Portugal but Lagos is awaits another day.
