Friday – yippee, the boxes have arrived as promised but help, this self-steering gear is adult meccano gone crazy.  Not only do we have to drill holes in our precious boat but holes also have to be drilled in thick stainless steel tubes.  We spend all day unpacking, sorting out the bits, reading the instructions and finally starting to assemble the kit.  We have to suspend it off the stern of the boat using the topping lift and then try and level it up and measure and mark – it’s virtually impossible.  We call it a day about 7pm when we’ve finally marked the first 4 holes ready for drilling.
