Mira's Web Diary

Phew, it’s been 3 weeks because one job inevitably leads to another but Mira is now back on her mooring in Marina Bay.  Up top we had to strip her back completely to facilitate the mast removal and down below we had to store all our kit so the hull penetrations could be accessed and changed, so it’s now all systems go to sort ourselves out.  It’s interesting how much harder it is to put things back on a boat than it was to take things off, especially when we’ve never sailed her – now where does that line run?

For the last 3 weeks we’ve been crossing back and forth over the Frontier and the runway every day by bike and on foot.  Each time we’re bemused by the cigarette smuggling taking place.  On the Gibraltar side people are openly breaking open multiple packs and pushing packets down socks, up shirts and everywhere else as well, ready to walk across the border.  Over the weekend we heard the commotion of a more sinister form of smuggling – 2 boats bringing cannabis from Morocco to Gibraltar were chased by police  and customs as they left Marina Bay having unloaded their packages, but unfortunately escaped.  On a lighter note, it’s very amusing to watch a yellow car driving up and down the runway squawking like a distressed seagull – I imagine the seagulls are amused too as I can’t believe they’re fooled for long!

Finally, we had to go to Estepona to sort out some paperwork so here’s a picture of a very pretty Spanish town.
