Friday – what is it with our travel plans?  I decide it would be fun to circumnavigate the Rock on our bikes.  There’s a road running all the way round the edge of Gibraltar and it looked on paper to be a splendid idea.  We set off in a clockwise direction and the first part is through a run-down industrial area next to the airport, but then you come round to the sheer side of the Rock and it’s blue sky and beaches.  I’m just congratulating myself on my brilliant plan when we come to a road tunnel.  Headlights needed and no pedestrians allowed.  We don’t have lights and when we peer up the tunnel it bends steeply uphill so no idea whether it’s even cyclable on our little bikes.  There’s no other way round so no circumnavigation today and we return the way we came.  Still, it gets us out (that makes me sound about 90!) and everyone tells us it’s going to rain all next week so I’m glad we’ve had a go.
