bonjourno land crabs DAY 17 i think... Tuesday 4th January 2011

well...yet another wave swept me away this morning on side deck. Literally!
I was poking some tube down the exhaust and all of a sudden this white roar behind me hit me and flicked me away like a feather in the wind. Not to worry! I did survive:D the wave moved me about 3 feet before thy trustworthy arms and safety harness stopped me. The girls are cooking up something erratic this evening so i'm looking forward to seeing what's brewing.. as always.
Everyone is good onboard, Meerkat is taking naps and reading books. Stirling is constantly conjuring up ways why Mr. Wallas is not functioning. Mikey bleating out phrases like THE HILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC etc.
ooooo looks like pasta for tea :)

Yes folks Tmoby got splashed by a wavelet which ran up his shorts as he was attempting to insert a probe up the cooker exhaust. Stirling came up with solution that we were trying to burn seawater rather than diesel, so we pumped the cooker and oven burner pots dry added some new diesel and away the cooker went. Stirling is now on speaking terms with Wallas.

Its been a bit lumpy today with the wind from the south at 24 knts, a bit more civilized than yesterday when it was gusting 43 knts and big seas. We have been sailing with three reefs in the mainsail and our trusted staysail. We are getting plenty of weather advice from the weather grib files that come by email plus we have a twice a day radio schedule with Graham on the South African Marine Mobile ham radio net. Stirling is becoming a bit of a Ham anorak, wandering around with her earphones on and muttering, over and out, QSL QSL etc.

Meercat came out of her burrow to cook this amazing dinner of spinach pasta with garlic chorizo sausage sauce with toasted garlic bread - no vampires tonight!

The blue team have been playing lounge lizards today as it is a pink day for cooking, however they like to bake on a blue day so we have to scape the flour off the inside of the boat.

Got some great information from daughter Fleur (Newcastle,UK) about the Isle of St Paul (Fr) which we are thinking of making a quick visit as it is sort of on the way to Perth. It is an extinct volcano where one side has collapsed making a channel into a lagoon in the center. It is a important place for breeding fur seals and for some exotic bird life. It had a black rat infestation that was decimating the roosting areas so the French in their subtle manner dropped 13 tons of rat poison bombs in 1997. End of the Black rat. Big thanks to Alastair and Indigo for the pilotage and sketch chart of St Pauls.

Well it is 2000 hrs ship time, so its orft to my bunk before the start of my watch.
