Tales of Amok's Adventures

Greetings from the North Atlantic where we have a constant 18 knots of wind from the North West which is making us truck along happily at 6 knots. Toby is currently on the helm plugged into his ipod singing Queen and giving Freddy Mercury a run for his money. And they say men can't multi-task...

Our departure from Portugal was met with a large swell which made for some initial uncomfortable sailing. Thankfully, it is much flatter now. Pandora has just amazed us all from rising out of her bunk to produce 2 lovely fresh loaves of bread (from our diesel oven, not from her bunk She jotted down a few recipes before we left and is now working out what we don't have... She'll be looking for organic french flat leafed parsley next. Can't think where she gets that from...I suspect it comes from watching Julie and Julia before we left, what a wonderful movie. Meryl Streep strikes again.

We were overtaken during the night by the cruise ship "Splendour of the Seas" which is destined for Madeira. If anybody is ever curious about the cost of these cruises, then one only need to have it sail past you at night to see that a hefty part of the bill must be for diesel to keep the generators going. I thought we were being overtaken by a small city. Every light on the ship was on, topped off with a very unconventional BLUE one on top, just incase we had missed all the others. Despite its speed of some 16 knots, it seemed to be around us for ages simply because of how much light it produced.

I suppose it took the last remaining berth in Madeira, so us lowly sailors will have to settle for leftovers.

More tomorrow when we'll give you an update of what other excitement we have had.

take care me hearty landlubbers
