Day 36 Sunday 23rd January 2011 Cape Town to Fremantle

Hopefully, the period of poor HF radio communications between 070E and 090E is behind us and we can look forward to receiving our essential emails; primarily our weather reports and secondly, emails from friends and loved ones. The weather email ensures we position ourselves for the best wind for fastest progress, the emails from friends and loved ones make us go back and trim the sails one more time, to see if we can squeeze out another 0.25 of a knot out of the sails.

Perth has often been described to me as being a very isolated capital city. Let me tell you, Perth doesn't know a thing about isolation when it is compared to the Southern Ocean at 40S between 075E and 085E longitude. This is a known radio dead spot which thankfully we were warned about. All you guys could have fallen off the edge of the world and we wouldn't have known about it. Do we now?? NO!! We heard a new voice on the HF radio 2 days ago, Bob from Perth (VK6 KW) and what a welcome voice that is!! As soon as we heard the Ozzie accent, it was like music to our ears. Bob and Graham, Thanks for being there and for your ongoing support.

We are trying quite hard to have a harmonious crew, but as you can imagine, tempers are a little frayed like the yankee headsail which dropped to the deck 2 nights ago, then attempted to wrap itself around the keel. Tolerance and patience are wearing thin. We are finding hilarity in the oddest things, we haven't found the fortitude to try another round of Pictionary. I personally cringe whenever it is suggested, as nobody wants me on their team. I personally can see nothing wrong with stick men.

Tmoby is in the bad books, as he stole a corner of the Blue Chef's prized Blue Tiger Krombol com apple crumble (quality testing, he assures us...)

Meerkat is off to take a shower, me I am off to the pub. Tmoby is trying to justify the need for quality testing and Mikey is suggesting I turn the water pressure off while Meerkat is in the shower. Not on my watch!!

Salty Sal and her cranky crew
