Lat: 10:59.2 S : Long: 126:59.6 E. 21st - 22nd September, 2013 – Timor
Sea Mainly light winds dogged us en route to Kupang, in Timor,
Indonesia, so we did quite a bit of motoring and enjoyed the company of a dozen
or more Pantropical Spotted Dolphins. We also came across yet another patch of
‘red soup’, the cloudy patch formed in the sea by the coral spawning, which we
had first witnessed off Hamilton Island, in Australia. However, this was when,
in the very lightest of breezes, the crucially-important headstay furling system
decided to finally give up the ghost and the aluminium foil tore in two across
the feeder section. This foil is the key element that allows us to hydraulically
reef our large headsail, so we were now paralysed up forward, with the threat of
having to sail the whole route ahead across the Indian Ocean from Bali to Cape
Town without a genoa! |
