Alan had been told about the fantastic diving to be had off Moore Reef so we decided to take a look. However, it was only the two of us and I didn’t want to go swimming, so Alan only took a very short trip out in the RIB to briefly snorkel in some fairly unimpressive coral formations, before the thoughts of big ‘salties’ roaming out at sea got the better of him. It was suggested by the pilot book they had been reported seen swimming out there. We then upped anchor and motored to Fitzroy Island Resort where we spotted five or six humpback whales quite some distance away. The resort was yet another one of those places we thought we would happily recommend to any newly-weds looking for somewhere remote and secluded for the perfect honeymoon.  Not having booked, we were unable to eat in the main restaurant, but enjoyed a very good meal at nearby Foxy’s Bar, from where we had a perfect view of Venus and the spectacular night sky.
