Today we had a day out at the Zoo. The Jersey wildlife preservation trust was established in 1963 by Gerald Durrell, naturalist and author. After his death in 1995 the organisation's name was changed to the Durrell wildlife conservation trust in honour of his immense contribution to conservation. The aim of the Zoo is to become a breeding and conservation centre for threatened species and to highlight the human impact on ecosystems around the world. It was a lovely afternoon out and one which I would recommend. We got to see some amazing rare birds and animals, but taking the prize for the most bizarre was the Aye-Aye, from Madagascar. This strange looking creature is nocturnal and so seeing it feeding at 5pm was a real treat. Using its incredibly long middle finger it was pulling grubs from inside a piece of bamboo, very strange!
