8 June
Sunday was spent on yacht maintenance
and preparation for the onward journey. After the arrival of our new crew member (Jamie Isaac)
and eating a wholesome fish supper, we departed in the early evening for Helford
River and were secure on a visitor's mooring at sunset.
The following morning (Monday 6th) we
slipped at 0700 local and headed south round the Lizard, and then shaped a
course for St Mary's in the Scillies. We had a good passage with lovely
sunny weather in a cold north westerly backing westerly as
we reached the islands, and picked up a visitor's mooring as the sun
set. The chicken curry expertly prepared by Tom completed an
enjoyable day.
After a welcome lie-in and a visit
by a cheerful and helpful harbour representative, we inflated the dinghy
and headed ashore. The harbour facilities are first class, with the
showers achieving a rare 100% satisfaction rating. We had a fabulous lunch
at Julia's, a short distance from the harbour, and walked it off with a ramble
round the island (it was too cold for a swim!). Back aboard, the
dinghy was re-packed and another enjoyable day ended with beans on toast
expertly prepared by Jamie. By this time we were experiencing 30 - 35
knot winds as a low passed to the west and we settled in for a bumpy
night. |
