Friday- LA Corunna again!
Boat jobs and domestics then went for a chat aboard
" Island Wanderer" with Peter and Avril- Peter is the nephew of a past customer!
Went to top up stores and resisted having lunch out!
  Moved round to fill diesel and re moored at a very
quiet berth and prepared for an earlyish start on Saturday. A single handed
Frenchman had just arrived and after helping him tie up he came aboard for a
beer in the cockpit. We watched a parade of boats coming out of the harbour all
dressed overall for the Virgen del Carmen Festival and as usual the Spanish used
the opportunity to fill the sky with very loud fireworks- no colour display-
just almighty bangs!

Up early and away at 07.45 in a pleasant morning.
The wind was in the NE but too light to sail in the big cross swell but the sun
came out and for once we could see the shoreline. Just West of Corunna another
massive port and breakwater under construction! Gradually the wind increased and
we could sail dead down wind and finally a fast reach into Ria Camarinas. A
good current with us ...50 miles travelled arriving just around
3.00pm..
    By now though the wind was NNE5/6 and I did
not fancy tight manoeuvring in the small marina so we anchored off a small beach
opposite the town.
  While it was good to be at anchor it looked as
though a Fiesta was on in the town which would have been fun! ( this
proved to be true with music echoing around the bay until well after 3.00am,
fireworks and brass bands in the morning)..
The Ria is very beautiful with scattered houses,
bright fields, woods and several beaches. A constant stream of yachts followed
us in- we must have been away early!
Sunday
Last night was somewhat disturbed by the amplified
" music" coming from the town 3/4 mile away across the Ria! We are glad we did
not go into the marina which is only a couple of hundred yards from the portable
stage!
 The tides were not right for a full explore but we
took the rib up the river a short way which is lovely with wooded banks and
lovely beaches.
  In the afternoon I nipped across to Camarinas in
the Rib and it was disappointing but it may have been the atmosphere set by the
fun fair, the street stalls selling "tat" and the lorry mounted stage. Our
friends who went to the marina said they had hardly any sleep! Despite the town
( which might be better during a non fiesta period) the Ria itself is very
beautiful. The marina which has space for about 8o boats is at the local "Club
Nautico" and on the shore was a very new "Sublift 40 ton" as just purchased by
AYC but this one had EEC stickers on it showing who had paid for
it!
Despite Rene's assurances that the fiesta was over
the music started up again and carried on till 4.00am along with the Spanish
love of very loud thunder flashes reverberating around the hills- why do they
like them?
Talk of strong winds for Finisterre kept us at
anchor so we were able to tick a few jobs off the list and we rigged the new
"sun bimini" as yesterday had been a scorcher- inevitably not so hot today but a
very pleasant day at anchor.
