We arrived in St Kitts after a superb sail up from Nevis. The wind was on
the beam and we sped along. On arrival we chose to berth in Port Zante marina to
avoid the swell outside. The marina is snug, and surrounded by high walls.
The marina is adjacent to the cruise ship dock, and with 3 cruise ships in
at the same time, the vicinity was rather busy.
Just outside the marina and cruise ship terminal is a shopping mall newly
built to cater for the tourists, selling tee-shirts, duty free alcohol and
jewellery. This was described by some other “yachties” as rather Disney
like.
To get a true flavour of St Kitts we spent time walking around the original
town of Basseterre.
Friday night was obviously disco night. Two bars were competing for volume
until late into the evening, but all in all it was a very peaceful stop, and
very convenient for getting ashore.
