Now well rested after 3 days in La Coruna. It is a
lovely city consisting of old and new parts. Avril & Peter had great fun
exploring the markets this morning, and Helen & Avril enjoyed browsing the
clothes shops this afternoon.
We met up with David & Lynn from Moonbeam, and
enjoyed a great time chatting, then being shown some of the areas of La Coruna
we had not found.
The wind has eased today and the plan was to set
off Southwards tomorrow. Alas - not to be. The Raymarine engineer found today
that we need a new masthead wind sensor, and a new cockpit VHF. He has ordered
them express delivery, under warranty, and will fit them on Monday all being
well, with us having to pay for the express delivery. We will instead just sail
around the local Rias, returning late Sunday, or Monday morning.
Although we had heavy weather in Biscay, you would
hope that equipment designed for the marine environment would not fail in this
way through getting wet! I have no recollection of dipping the masthead into a
wave.
The Bow Thruster is fixed and working well. A
remote control receiver had been placed in the steering binnacle, which proved
to be a very wet place, and the electronics had no weather protection at all!
The fix was to simply remove it from the circuit. The Sea-Me had blown a fuse.
Hopefully no other underlying fault.
We are privileged here in La Coruna to meet / cross
paths with many people of many nationalities who are long term cruising. It is
great to see how they have equipped themselves to carry out various tasks,
such as using fold-up bikes towing a shopping cart to carry bulk shopping back
to the marina.
