We motor-sailed from Jolly Harbour to Nevis with very little wind. The seas
were calm, but the atmosphere very hazy. Locals here say the haze is due to the
volcano blowing, whilst the Ocean Cruising Club on the SSB radionet tell us it
is due to the amount of Saraha dust blown into the atmosphere. We are currently
moored off the town of Charlestown. It is very peaceful here, with the exception
of the rock-and-roll when the ferries pass close by at speed on their way to or
from St Kitts.
En Route here we passed the 10,000 mile milestone. We have
covered this distance since we purchased this boat on 7th April 2009.
Charlestown here is very full of character, and we are thoroughly enjoying
our stay. We went on an island tour today by taxi that took us to Nelson’s
Museum, numerous plantation houses that have been turned into luxurious hotels,
and the Botanical Gardens. These must rate as some of the most beautiful gardens
we have visited.
