Whilst in Marina Rubicon we took the opportunity to carry out a temporary repair to the kicker mounting plate on the underside of the boom. It had developed a crack, which the boatyard kindly welded for us. However to remove it we had to drill out 16 rivets and remove various other components first, then once welded, re-rivet all of these in place. We then decided to lower the boom, and flush out the old rivet heads from the inside of the boom to prevent rattles, catching the old rivets in a bucket. Unfortunately we dropped the bucket over-board, to a depth of 4.5 metres. Doug to the rescue :-
