We left our mooring on the River Hamble at 7.30 am after being joined by
final crew member, Derek, who is Avril's brother. With very little wind we
have just cleared the Needles under engine, but fog surrounds us and we
cannot see land at all. The sea state is calm and we are all looking forward
to the journey. The forecast is good and although the fog has brought damp
air, it is reasonably warm. It seems strange to be leaving our UK berth for
the foreseeable future! As I write, the fog is lifting and the sun is
attempting to shine. We have about 177nm to Ushant off the coast of France,
and then 340nm across Biscay to La Coruna. We don't intend to stop en route
unless we have to. Everyone is in good spirits and our next major decision
will be what to have for lunch!
